Our History

Barbara & George Sr always had the “collecting bug” and formalized it when they founded MidMod Decor in late 2013. Their intent was to share their love of Mid-Century Modern and Danish Modern furniture with others. During the first few years, the business operated entirely online with a small warehouse space in Port Richmond, Philadelphia—within a mile from the neighborhood where George Sr. grew up. In the spring of 2019, George Sr. passed away, but his impact on the business and those he loved endures. MidMod Decor continues to move “full-steam ahead” in its current form and is now operated by Barbara and her son George Jr. Today, MidMod Decor is at it's third location with over 4000sq/ft of space located in Wyncote, PA just minutes north of Philadelphia.

A Small Family Business

Barbara, a graphic designer, is the daughter of renowned ceramic artist, William Daley. As a graduate of Philadelphia College of Art (Now University of the Arts), Barbara experienced a time when its aesthetic roots were tightly woven with the Bauhaus. She began her career working for some of the top design firms in New York City in the 1970s, and she has been honing her problem-solving skills and aesthetic sensibilities for the past 40 years and counting.

Prior to MidMod George Jr. worked as a senior designer at brand consultancy in Philadelphia. He is also a graduate of the University of the Arts and holds graduate degrees from Maryland Institute College of Art and CUNY Hunter College, with an MFA in sculpture. In addition to his skills as an artist and designer, George Jr. has worked as a finish carpenter and art handler in numerous capacities. Growing up inside a family of designers, architects, and artists, George Jr. has been nurturing his design skill and creative intuition from an early age.

George Sr. (1946-2019) dedicated his career to architecture and education. He graduated from Temple University's Tyler School of Art, where he studied under the mentees of the famed Philadelphia architect, Louis Kahn. George practiced architecture for 40 years and taught drawing, space planning, and design at the Art Institute of Philadelphia as a Professor of Interior Design for 25 years. For the last 20 of those years, he was appointed Thesis Master.
