MidMod and Labor Day
Each week Barbara and I write a this blog to try to share our thoughts and ideas related to our love of MidCentury Modern furniture. We’re retired. Barbara for 40 years of graphic design and me from 40 years of professional architecture overlapping 25 years of teaching interior design. We have this little business called MidMod Decor but because we’re older, we need lots of help with running it and getting things done, both digitally and manually. So this week’s blog is about the people who get the stuff done around here. Labor Day is about America celebrating the efforts of those of us who “get’ter done.” These are the folks in our family who do just that.
Christopher Meznaric
Chris is our right-hand man. He is an invaluable help for Barbara in the photo studio. He has a great eye for the set-up and photography that you see on our site. He was our son George’s best man and lifelong friend. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is currently in his thesis semester at Drexel University’s masters program in international education. When he leaves for a real life, we’ll be in big trouble.
Neven Meznaric
Neven is responsible for most of the furniture repair and refinishing of our stock and Chris’s dad. He is a graduate of engineering school in Croatia and a former Chief Engineer on deep sea container ships and tugs. He’s a man who can figure out a fix for any tough repair problem. He’s a painter of enormous sensitivity. Some of his paintings are in the background of some of the set-up photos on our site. He’s also a heavy metal drummer.
Amanda Schwab
Amanda is our daughter-in-law. She is the talent behind the Omandalade site that is a portal for the custom designed fabric products that she makes and sells. She has a BFA in photography from the University of the Arts and is the mind behind our Twitter and Instagram presence and helps George A. in all things in his life.
Besides being beautiful, she’s also a wonderful cook. We love it when she’s at our house because her meals are fabulous.
George A. Schwab
George is our son. Just saying that is all that is necessary for you parents out there. George designed and maintains our web site and our Facebook presence. He has a BFA in graphic design and is currently in his thesis semester for his MFA at Hunter College in Manhattan, concentrating his efforts in sculpture. He’s our best critic, keeping Barb and I located, intellectually, in the 21st century.
There is also Joe who helps us with our upholstery and Ed who helps us with the big refinishing projects. Mike Moran helps us with the heavier transportation problems. I can’t forget these people.
So, for all you folks out there who helps to get things done.
Thank You
